An accident must be reported within 10 days if: more than $750 in property damage is done to any person, anyone was injured (even slightly) or killed. Each driver (the driver's insurance agent, broker, or legal representative) must make a report to DMV using CA Traffic Accident Report (form SR1). The CHP/Police will not do this for you.
You must make this report: whether or not you caused the accident and even if the accident occurred on private property. Your driving privilege will be suspended: if you do not make this report - for four years if you did not have proper insurance coverage. During the last 3 yrs of the suspension, your license can be returned if you provide a a CA Insurance Proof Certificate (SR 22) and maintain it during this period.
Every accident reported to DMV shows on your record: by law enforcement unless the reporting officer says another person was at fault, or reported by you or another party in the accident, if it has over $750 in damage or if anyone is injured or killed.
If you are under 18 your parents assume financial responsibility. If you are involved in an accident you may be liable for civil damages and you may be fined.
